Teaching Philosophy
Woodwind instruments offer us an almost unequaled ability to bring our unique voices to music, second only to the human voice itself. Knowing this, I provide my students with guiding principals & technical skills for music making and allow them to use those principals to find their own voices to express themselves through their instruments. Put more succinctly:
We learn to make music; the oboe, or the saxophone, or the clarinet is simply our chosen medium.
In the interest of helping each student along their unique path, my teaching follows an individualized approach. I meet each student where their skills are and work with them to achieve their personal goals for their instrument and music in general. By empowering my students to seek growth for themselves in whatever areas of music capture their interest, I hope to help them develop the confidence, awareness, and learning skills to serve their needs & passions in music and in the rest of their lives.
I have taught a wide range of students, from beginners all the way to college level, and I firmly believe in the capacity for the study of music to expand young minds and keep old ones sharp. No matter your age or proficiency, I would be happy to welcome you into my studio!

I offer lessons on:
- Oboe & English horn (including reed-making)
- All saxophones
- All clarinets
- Beginning cello

I teach out of my apartment in Fort George (upper Manhattan)* and online. Note that there are additional equipment expectations for online lessons.
For new students, I offer a free half-hour trial lesson.
My rates can be found below. In order to encourage the consistency that is so important for musical & technical growth, I offer a reduced rate for students who pay monthly rather than on a weekly or per-lesson basis. If cost is a concern for you, I would be happy to work with you to find a solution for your situation, as I never want cost to be a barrier for access to quality music education.
